Hong Kong Kompressions

This project explores the brutal nature of Hong Kong architecture from a street level point of view.

Hong Kong is one of the most population-dense cities in the world. Currently, Hong Kong’s population is about 7.4 million people or about 6600 people per square kilometer. The average apartment size is about 450 square feet (42 square meters) but most live in apartments less than 200 square feet (19 square meters).

On July 1, 1997 Great Britain returned Hong Kong back to China, with the promise of China not intervening for 50 years. But over the last 25 years, China has quietly exerted influence over Hong Kong, and protests were the resistance to the loss of freedom and guaranteed human rights Hong Konger’s feel slipping away one thread at a time.
